This year Barbizon posted something new we found interesting, a video categorizing their year in review for 2012. It highlights what appears to be their success stories for the year and a behind the scenes look. Nice to see they had some community outreach items. Seems their success list was fairly significant this year. As we have said before, you shouldn’t attend Barbizon if all you want to do is become famous – NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE OR SHOULD GUARANTEE THIS! In any rate, the video did show that some grads are pursuing what they attended Barbizon for.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nBarbizon Year in Review

Modelista’s Take:\r\n\r\nReally? This person wrote a complaint based on something that was their own undoing. First of all, this person is mad that they were not hired by Barbizon because Barbizon felt they were not knowledgeable enough, yet the person states they never even finished their Barbizon training. Of course you were not knowledgeable enough, you never finished! Why would they want to hire someone who didn’t finish their program?\r\n\r\nAnother thing to note is, if this person hated Barbizon so much why did they want to work here? I understand they told her she could not do runway work because she was too short but there are all sorts different kinds of modeling jobs and different types of models, if you are serious about this business giving up so easily is never going to get you anywhere. At least Barbizon was honest with their student. Barbizon didn’t do anything wrong here, plain and simple.

Top Model’s Take:\r\n\r\nI see this same question ALL THE TIME. “I saw some thing on the internet that Barbizon’s a scam.” But then you see a lot of positive testimonials on the Barbizon website as well. So what can you believe? When you read the complaints ask yourself…was this person really scammed or just an uneducated consumer…or could they just not afford the product? People complain about EVERYTHING online these days. Chances are if they would call the company rather than complaining on the internet they would get further with the resolution. Trust sources like the Better Business Bureau, read both positive and negative reviews and ask the company questions that you really want to know. Make an informed decision.\r\n\r\nAlso, BARBIZON IS A SCHOOL. If you are going into this just because you think you will be handed a job, you may be disappointed. Just like any vocational school or college, they give you the skills to get a job in the modeling or acting industry but it’s up to you to get it.\r\n\r\nAs someone who has been in the modeling industry for a number of years, I think Barbizon is a great place to start for some people, especially those living in smaller cities in the country.

We were shocked to find the following note at the top of this complaint from the person who wrote this. Apparently, pissedconsumer.com does not allow people who write complaints then have them resolved take them down! Talk about scammy! See the following note: \r\n\r\nUpdates to the review posted by author:\r\nUnfortunatly pissedcomsumer.com does not have a way to remove or edit your posts. I have to thank Laura from the Sacramento offices of Barbizon for doing everything she has.. even if nothing comes from any of it. I believe at this time Barbizon is trying to work with me and provide excellant services to remedy a bad experience. I wish I could remove the post but I suppose theis website might not provide any sort of customer service as they have no way to update comsumers to let them know how many of these places might actually take the step to work with their comsumers. Barbizon is franchise… just like your local McDonalds Starbucks ect… Have you ever walked into McDonalds and been given the wrong order? I know I have. You get home and your not happy & everyone in the car hears you as you grumble the whole way back to complain how everything was messed up. The differance is that when its fixed annd your driving back home those same people in the car get to know that you have been SATISFYED as a consumer. Pissedconsumer.com doesnt give people the oppertunity to let people know if something was resolved. My daughter had a bad experience.. yes but Barbizon is trying to fix that bad experience for her. And anyone that reads my review should be able to know that also. Consumers have the right to be displeased but also have the right to let people know “hey they fixed that”. Laura in the Sacramento office has been doing a wonderful job with customer service and trying to resolve the issue.

This post highlights what Barbizon is all about: training, building confidence and opportunities. I especially like the highlighted point that there is no guarantee you will get a job, because THERE IS NOT GUARANTEE WHEN IT COMES TO JOBS IN THE MODELING AND ACTING INDUSTRY! Barbizon grads across the country scream Barbizon praises abut the confidence building that is built into every aspect of the curriculum. As a grad myself, I can tell you it’s amazing. As far as what to expect after you finish classes for Barbizon, it depends on you. There is a place in this industry for many different types of models but not everyone can work, it’s so competitive. You have to be willing to work hard, never give up. Just remember to have realistic expectations with Barbizon, don’t expect to be handed a job, you have to work for that part.

Model Mama’s Take:\r\n\r\nFirst of all, this is not Barbizon’s fault. If you don’t have the money, you shouldn’t sign up for Barbizon. From a mom who sent my daughter to Barbizon, I didn’t have any problems with Barbizon because I didn’t fall for a sales tactic and knew if I signed up I was going to have to make the payments.\r\n\r\nAs far as Barbizon not allowing this woman’s daughter to attend class because she missed a payment, not so great customer service to crush the little girls heart when she shows up for class and then refuse to speak to the parent. We contacted Barbizon and turns out Terri Thomas no longer works there, obviously they have tried to address the problems there.\r\n\r\nThe deal is that yes Barbizon should clean up their customer service and sales tactics. However, they did provide the services the woman paid for and she was the one who couldn’t pay for the services. Granted they shouldn’t embarrass a little girl, and hopefully they will learn from their mistake for the next time. Just know that Barbizon is a business and they must get paid so if you sign up, you have to be able to pay.

Model Mama’s Take:\r\n\r\nFirst let me start off with Barbizon is not an agency. It’s a school. What’s the difference? An agency makes money (everyone has to make money) by taking a cut of the jobs they book for clients. Barbizon is a school, they make money from tuition they charge for their training. So yes you should never pay for an agency, they are still going to make money from you, but they are going to take it out of your check. Everyone has to get paid, it just comes in different ways.\r\n\r\nSecond, The Barbizon representative that called SHOULD NOT have said that she was calling from an agency or with any mention of modeling for a fall clothing line because it’s just not true. While some Barbizon locations do have a placement division which helps notify grads of opportunities in the industry, they can not guarantee job placement, no one can. When my daughter went to Barbizon they were fairly up front with us but I also asked A LOT of questions. And that’s always my advice for parents, ask questions. The deal with Barbizon is it’s a modeling and acting training program, what drew me in more as a parent is the self-confidence building they provide. What drew my daughter in was obviously the modeling and acting.\r\n\r\nBottom line, Barbizon should not allow sales tactics like the one cited in this complaint, but it’s not a bad program, parents just need to ask questions and know what they are getting into.
